A sad family from northern Philadelphia claims a response after a shocking incident at a funeral causing carriers to fall into the grave during the funeral of their loved one, Benjamin Aviles.

The accident happened on Friday, April 4, when the coffin carriers tried to bring it down to the grave, they suddenly collapsed after a wooden platform over the grave collapsed.
The video was captured at that sad time when the structure was broken, and immersed several men, including the son of the late Aviles, inside the grave.
“It was a very sad situation when it was already difficult,” Said Maribelle Rodriguez, Aviles step daughter.
He reported that the fallen had suffered injuries to their legs, hands, and backs, while his stepmother was seriously injured after the coffin fell straight to him, causing him to lose consciousness for a while in the mud.
The family now blames Greenmount Cemetery and Rodriguez Funeral Home – which has nothing to do with the family – for what they refer to as a risky and poorly protected environment at the funeral.
“The whole structure was weak.
“The timber was stuck with water and they were shaking – it was clear there was a problem,” Said Maribelle.
By Monday, residues of broken timber and wood trash were still visible at the funeral area.
The family now wants accountability, with Maribelle saying:
“There should be forgiveness, and we deserve to be compensated. The worship was completely destroyed. It was not done with respect.”
So far, the cemetery and the mortuary have refused to comment on the ABC7 news agency.
