Paul Njoroge Ndung'u: The body of a killed KDF soldier guarding the Car Peace arrives in Kenya

Nairobi – A deep cloud of sadness spread to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) body of Major Paul Njoroge Ndung'u, a fallen Kenya Defense Force (KDF) officer, arriving in the country from the Central African Republic (CAR).

Major Ndung'u was seriously injured on Friday, March 28, during an attack on anonymous militia while he was in a regular patrol squad in Zemio, Hiut-Mbomou, under the UN delegation to bring stability in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

KDF mourned the right officer

Soldiers marched side -by -side as they lowered the remains of their deceased, having been flown to the Kenyan flag.

For military accuracy, the soldiers marched behind the priest, who led the way before praying.

On the holy occasion that fed the strong emotions and military decorations, the brothers of KDFled by the Chief Executive Officer of the East Commander, Major General Luke Kutto, received the body as well as family, friends and sad staff.

“The KDF brother, the family of the dead officer and the nation as a whole mourn the loss of a dedicated soldier whose dedication to peace and ministry will be remembered forever. His soul should rest in eternal peace,” KDF said in a statement.

The remains of the adorned soldiers have been transferred to the fare house, where burial procedures are underway.

Major Ndung'u joins the growing list of heroes who have paid a high cost in pursuing peace in foreign land.

The United Nations, through the leadership of MINUSCA, has condemned the attack, citing it as a fearful attack on peacekeepers volunteered to protect the number of endangered people.

Valentine Rugwabiza, a special representative of the UN Secretary -General António Guterres and the head of MINUSCA, described a serious shock over the loss of Kenyan peacekeepers.

“A special representative has been shocked by this evil attack against peacekeepers whose mission is to protect civilians. He sends his condolences to the government and the Kenyan people and expresses his full sadness to the victim's family,” said part of the UN statement.

A quick response team was sent to the scene following the attack, while investigations were underway.

Rugwabiza warned that targeting UN peacekeepers was a war crime under international law and called on CAR authorities to bring the perpetrators before the law without delay.

“The attack on the peacekeepers will not reduce MINUSCA's mission to fulfill its role in the peace and stability ministry in the Central African Republic,” He insisted.

Kenyan soldiers killed Haiti

In another tragic incident, a second Kenyan police officer sent to Haiti under the UN peacekeeping delegation died, raising concerns about the safety of Kenyan workers in the chaotic Caribbean nation.

According to reports, the officer died of injuries he suffered during severe confrontation with armed gangs in Port-or-Prince, where insecurity has increased.

The Kenyan government, through the national police service, issued condolences and assured that the procedures continue to return the officer's remains to the funeral.
