Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a close ally of former deputy president Rigathi Gachaguahe raised questions after joyfully welcomed President William Ruto in Nyeri County during his visit to the area.

He emphasized his respect for the President, explaining that he was only performing his duties as Nyeri Governor by welcoming the President and his team.

Kahiga urged Kenyans to understand the reason for welcoming the president to his county, emphasizing that it should not be interpreted as leaving Gachagua to join the Ruto camp.

“The presidency is an institution that should be respected. As governor of Nyeri, I will still welcome the President to the Nyeri Town and Othaya areas on Saturday. It is important to distinguish issues!” he added.

Kahiga's rally at the Ruto summit comes at a time when Gachagua faces doubts from some of his closest partners, with critics questioning his leadership style and his position to focus on Mount Kenya towards the 2027 general election.

Although Gachagua is not a presidential candidate, his efforts to undermine Ruto's national influence seem to lose focus due to internal divisions, which raises doubts about his ability to build strong opposition to the President.

This situation has emerged in the calls of prominent leaders, including Githunguri MP Gathoni Waumomba, who wants Gachagua to have a view to include all Kenyans instead of focusing on one place.
