“Dr. Margaret Karungaru, widow of former governor of Nyeri Nderitu Gachagua, has been appointed by Ruto as commissioner in the National Gender and Equality Commission, which deals with women's affairs,” Kindiki said.

Karungaru was appointed by Ruto in the post in April 2023 and sworn in by the Chief Justice Martha Koomewho also serves as president of Kenya's highest court.

The president also criticized the role of Gachagua's allegations in these tensions, especially his disputes with senior political leaders and parliamentarians.
