Aden Duale says he does not need to be a doctor to serve as a health minister

He explained that over the past two decades, only two doctors have served in the top positions of the ministry, which, in his opinion, shows that the characteristics of the medical profession are not necessary for that role.

“The critics have their own agendas. I have a responsibility to fulfill, and I do not do it alone.

Duale further compared his role with that of other ministers in the cabinet, noting that the Minister of Infrastructure, for example, does not need to be a road engineer to manage the industry.

“My sister here (Deborah Barasa) is a doctor, still leading the environmental document despite not being a weather and environmentalist, these are pedestrians,” he added.

Duale said this while addressing health care workers gathered for The procession Outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Health.

The protests focused on various long -term issues, including the well -being and the employment of doctors.

In response, Duale assured health care workers that he had fully committed to resolving these issues.

“I have promised to address key issues, including payments and workers' changes for more than five years of service on permanent terms and pensions (PNP) within the next three weeks,” Duale explained.

In addition to addressing these urgent employment issues, the Minister of Health also promised to strengthen a broader health care system.

He emphasized the need to prioritize the well -being of health professionals and ensure the integrity of the industry.

“I will focus on strengthening the health care system by taking concrete steps against non -graduate ministers who undermine the quality of services in our country,” Duale confirmed.

KMPDU says Duale is not eligible to be health minister

This comes after the Secretary -General of the Union of Doctors, Drugs and Dentists (KMPDU) Davji Atellah expresses doubt about Duale's ability to address the requirements of the Ministry of Health.

Speaking to the media on March 30, Atellah claimed that Duale has no clear understanding of how the Kenyan health system works, which could disturb its leadership.

Atellah also highlighted that Duale's predecessor, Barasa, showed a better understanding of the industry's needs, emphasizing that under Barasa, KMPDU succeeded in avoiding strikes for the first time in history, due to its understanding of the health system.

In a statement, Atellah warned Duale against repeating the mistakes of the former health minister Susan Nakhumicha By incorporating politics in the health sector.

He called on the new minister to focus on community health insurance (SHA) and address key issues affecting medical staff, such as workers' well -being and long -standing joint agreements (CBA).
