The MP noted that in the central region of Kenya, the backbone of the economy -based economy such as tea and coffee has greatly strengthened the standard of living, enabling many families to build permanent homes.
“Until the end of last year, or earlier this year, when we went to the funeral of the National Assembly of the National Assembly, I was shocked to see that in Bungoma County, there are many mud houses, even the entire muddy business center. You know, in Mount Kenya, this is something that may not have been heard,” He said.
He explained that in Mount Kenya, families have been relying on tea and coffee cultivation to raise their living conditions.
The MP remembered how his mother's income from tea cultivation was a great help in the formation.
“I was brought up with tea. He explained.
How did Mount Kenya continue in front of other areas?
Chege further explained that his views were not intended to stimulate divisions between areas, but to show how economic activity affects development.
He explained that in Mount Kenya, families used revenue from commercial products to obtain loans from banks and build permanent housing.
“Not that they did not work hard. It depends on the previous business crop, and I would say the benefit of Mount Kenya is that, you know, I want to mention tea and coffee alone. Tea and these commercial products helped people improve their lives. That's where people would get a loan even from the bank and build honorary houses,” He said.
However, he acknowledged that the area was also challenged when tea and coffee prices dropped, which caused a certain generation to become financially affected and even lack educational opportunities.
“At some point, after our generation, there was a time when tea and coffee prices dropped, and I can tell you, we have a generation in Mount Kenya that has not gone to school,” He said.
