IEBC Chairman's candidate fails to remember 2022 presidential candidates

Nairobi – The ongoing interview to fill the post of Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) took an unexpected stream on Monday, March 24, when candidate Edward Katana Ngeywa when he created his interview.

Arriving in front of the appointment panel of commissioners of IEBCNgeywa could not give a clear answer to the question about the 2022 general election in Kenya, which sparked emotion and sparked debate about his duty.

At the session, the panel chairman Nelson Makanda asked Ngeywa a question, wanting to know the number of presidential candidates in the last election.

“How many candidates did we have, three or four?” Makanda asked.

The move referred to the August 9, 2022 presidential election, which saw William Ruto defeat him Raila Odinga In a race that included four approved candidates.

However, Ngeywa's response left the room quietly stabbed.

“I don't remember the exact number, but they were number,” Ngeywa replied.

His unspecified and uncertain response was quite different from the expectations of a candidate who wanted to lead the IEBC, an institution tasked with managing the electoral processes in Kenya correctly by the authorities.

Ngeywa who is a lawyer and a person with a disability is among the 11 nominees for the position.

His interview was organized with celebrities such as former Chief Registrar of Court Anne Amadi and former East African Court Judge Charles Nyachae.

Today, on Tuesday, March 25, four other candidates are expected to face the panel. They are: Erastus Edung Ethekon, Francis Kakai Kissinger, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei and Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo.

The IEBC match panel, headed by Makanda, has been tasked with filling the chairmanship with six positions of commissioners left open since January 2023, following the expiry of the term of the term and the dismissal of four other commissioners who opposed the presidential results 2022.
