Chebikati's death was confirmed by his family on Friday, February 21. According to reports, Chebikati passed away on Thursday evening while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

In a statement published on its social networking pages, Ruto He expressed his sadness at the news, noting that Chebikati's death signifies a huge loss to the nation.

“I have received reports of the farewell from former Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wafula Chebikati with great sadness,” Ruto said in his condolences.

Leaders congratulate Fula Chebikati

The news has sparked emotions from Kenyan political leaders in general, many of whom have appeared on social networks and public meetings to express their condolences and reflect on their contributions.

Internal Security Minister Kipchumba Murkomen remembered Chebikati as a principal leader, a true patriot and a very righteous man.

Murkomen added that Chebikati was a brave man, he was loyal to the Constitution, and made history by leading the nation into two main elections.

Ruto praises Chebikati for producing reliable election results

Chebikati gained praise among Ruto's allies, who mentioned the defender of democracy. Ruto himself praised Chebikati for opposing “hooliganism and bribery” during the election.
