Why were Isiolo youths arrested?
The arrests took place as security measures were strengthened in Isiolo following a visit by the President William Ruto in the area.
The youths were detained during a severe security search initiated by security officials in the county, targeting people suspected of being involved in drug trafficking, illegal alcohol trafficking and general misconduct.
Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding had previously stated that the operation was part of a broader plan to deal with the increase in crime in the area, which includes drug -related offenses and roaming at midnight.
Omoding defended the arrests of the youths by telling the media that the search was necessary to maintain the law and stability, and that it was not a immediate operation.
However, the youths were arrested just one day after President William Ruto was facing an unexpected situation during his public rally in Isiolo, which sparked outrage and sparked whispers about the possibility of political reasons being banned.
